A filename extension identifies the container, such as MP4 or MOV. The video and audio inside it use codecs. An accepted extension does not guarantee that every codec inside that file will play on your device.
Accepted file types
Gling's file picker accepts these video extensions: MP4, MOV, MKV, WMV, M4V, AVI, OGG, MPG, WEBM and BRAW. The desktop app also accepts MXF.
Audio extensions are MP3, AAC, WAV, M4A and OGG. Playback and processing still depend on the file's tracks, encoding and your platform.

If a file will not play
Play the original outside Gling first. If it plays there but shows a black preview or freezes in Gling, try converting a short copy to MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. Keep the original. Renaming an extension does not convert the codec.
This conversion resolved a confirmed HEVC playback problem on Windows Chrome. It is a useful compatibility check, rather than a guarantee for every file.
File size and usage
Check the limit or usage message shown in your account for the operation you are attempting. Limits can differ by platform, operation and account. If Gling rejects a file, include the exact message, file size and duration when you contact support.
Spoken language
Choose the recording's language in Video spoken language during import. A mismatch can affect transcription and AI editing. Troubleshoot an upload or processing problem.
Spoken content and languages
File compatibility does not guarantee a useful transcript for music, singing or silence. Check the recording's speech track and supported language choices. If the file opens but playback repeatedly freezes, use the playback and crash checks.
